The Seahawks are based in Seattle, Wshington and joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team. The Seahawks are the only NFL franchise based in the Pacific Northwest region of North America, and thus attract support from a wide geographical area, including some parts of Oregon, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska, as well as Canadian fans in British Columbia and Alberta. Seahawks fans have been referred to collectively as the "12th Man", "12th Fan", or "12s", due to the amazing noise and atmosphere they create at all home games. The Seahawks' fans have twice set the Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd noise at a sporting event, most recently creating a mini earthquake during a 2013 game against the Saints.
The 12s have had plenty to cheer about in recent times, as the team has made the playoffs in five straight seasons, reaching two Super Bowls in that stretch and winning one. Seattle is one of the most dominant teams in the NFC, and will once again be a force to be reckoned with as long as they can keep Russell Wilson upright.
Head Coach: Pete Carroll
The Seahawks are in a bad spot. The organisation is still the most talented in the division, yet its inability to adequately address the offensive line limits its overall potential. George Fant's recent season-ending knee injury only exacerbated the problem. Head coach Pete Carroll needs to find a competent left tackle in the next two weeks or quarterback Russell Wilson will be running for his life again. Even so, Seattle should still be considered the NFC West favorite thanks largely to its insanely talented defence.
Seattle has one of the better offences when it comes to skill position players, but it's the big men up front who have to improve. Wilson is constantly under pressure, so the line has to find a way to help out their star QB. There are some great weapons for Russell to throw to in tenacious WR Doug Baldwin and great TE Jimmy Graham. Tyler Lockett is also a great playmaker and return man. Since Marshawn Lycnh retired (and now playing for the Raiders) the Seahawks haven't had a great run game. Hopefully that imporves this year.
The Hawks have had one of the best defences in the league since 2011. They are a top 3 unit and that's largely down to their legendary secondary dubbed the "Legion of Boom". The group consists of All Pros Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas. When it's all said and done, don't be surprised if each of these players make it into the Hall of Fame. The rest of the unit is great too. Michael Bennet is a beast, as is Cliff Avril, and Bobby Wagner is a top 3 linebacker. There's a reason this group finished in or around the top 5 in all defensive categories.
Earl Thomas, S
It's easy to argue that QB Russell Wilson is the most important player, but Earl Thomas is the heart and soul of the legendary Legion of Boom. And Seattle has always been more renowned for their great defence than offence, thanks largely to Thomas. Thomas has made the pro bowl 5 times and is probably the best free safety in the game.
He's one of the most intelligent players in the league, constantly finding himself at the right place at the right time. Not only is he a ball hawk, he's also a great tackler. Alongside Sherman and Chancellor, Thomas has been part of one of the best secondaries of all time. Only Denver's "No Fly Zone" can compete with them at the moment. Thomas means so much to this team, and was sorely missed during 5 games last year.
Other notable players: QB - Russell Wilson. WR - Doug Baldwin. WR - Tyler lockett. TE - Jimmy Graham. DE - Michael Bennett. DE - Cliff Avril. LB - Bobby Wagner. CB - Richard Sherman. S - Kam Chancellor.
